The special investigations unit (SIU) of Ontario is looking into a police-related shooting that took place in Oshawa, Ont., which resulted in injuries to both a Durham officer and a suspect.
As per the SIU’s report, officers from Durham Regional Police were called to a home on Cedar Street in Oshawa around 11 a. m. on Sunday for a mental health situation.
Shortly after arriving, they came across a 27-year-old man who was reportedly armed with a knife.

The SIU indicated that during their encounter, one officer discharged their firearm multiple times, injuring both the suspect and another officer. According to an earlier statement from Durham police, the injured officer was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition. The suspect was also hospitalized with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
