Officer and Suspect Injured in Oshawa Shooting Incident
WATCH ABOVE: Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has invoked it's mandate after a Durham Regional Police officer, and suspect were both shot in Oshawa in the area of Simcoe St. South and Wentworth St. East on Sunday. The special investigations unit (SIU) of Ontario is looking into a police-related shooting that took place in Oshawa, Ont., which resulted in injuries to both a Durham officer and a suspect.

As per the SIU’s report, officers from Durham Regional Police were called to a home on Cedar Street in Oshawa around 11 a. m. on Sunday for a mental health situation.

Shortly after arriving, they came across a 27-year-old man who was reportedly armed with a knife.

The SIU indicated that during their encounter, one officer discharged their firearm multiple times, injuring both the suspect and another officer.

According to an earlier statement from Durham police, the injured officer was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition. The suspect was also hospitalized with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The SIU mentioned that the man is not believed to have been carrying a firearm.

A total of five investigators along with two forensic experts have been assigned to this case.
