1936-2026

Cecilia Sawyer (nee Dubois), at the age of 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Born in Renfrew, Ontario in 1936, she spent most of her life in Chapeau, PQ and Pembroke, ON. She was predeceased by her husband Conrad Sawyer. She is survived by her children Conrad (Jackie), Tommy (Tabitha) (the late Lorraine), Dennis (Jodi), Wayne (Karen), Late Andrew, Late David (Jill), Barbara, Caroline (Late Gord), Debbie (Late Ian) and Angela. Her 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren will also miss her dearly.

Cecilia was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League for many years and remained devoted to her Catholic faith. As her health declined, attending church became challenging for her. Instead, she enjoyed watching TV mass every morning at 8 am from the comfort of her armchair. She appreciated having church officiants come to visit on Sundays for communion and prayer. We want to express our gratitude to Deacon Dan Daley (Our Lady of Sorrows Parish) for taking the time to call on the morning of her passing to say a prayer over speaker phone while he was away.

Cecilia was well-known for making crocheted blankets, hats and mittens that she donated to local charities, hospitals and friends. This hobby brought her joy even as she faced health issues. Along with her husband, she ran a soup kitchen in Sault Ste Marie years ago. Her kindness inspired her children who carry on this spirit of giving proudly. Cecilia had a warm heart and loved helping others. She enjoyed scratch tickets and bingo games too; often wishing she’d win big so she could share it all.

<p In earlier days, she loved fishing and blueberry picking. She took great pride in catching a large sturgeon and displayed that photo with pride within the family. Cecilia became famous among family members for her baked beans recipe which has now been passed down to her granddaughters (Chrissy and Sam; don’t mess it up)
We extend our thanks to all the nurses and PSWs from Ontario Home Health and Bayshore as well as Dr. Lane who provided such patient care for our Mom.

As per request there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be announced later on. Arrangements are being made by Neville Funeral Home in Pembroke. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Cecilia, contributions can be made to Petawawa Pantry (Food Bank) or St. Joseph’s Food Bank would be appreciated. Online Condolences may be left at www. nevillefuneralhome. ca

Until we meet again dear Mother; we will miss you.
