Robert C. Thompson, B. A., L. L. B., Q. C. He was born in Orangeville, Ontario in 1932, where he went through public and high school. After leaving Orangeville, Robert attended the University of Western Ontario and then Osgoode Hall Law School, where he worked under Senator David J. Walker. He served as president of Phi Delta Phi, the international legal fraternity of North America before being called to the Bar in 1960. Robert started his career with Jennings, Clute, Lovatt and Jones during 1960-1961. Eventually, he established his own private practice in Collingwood from 1961 until 1995. In 1979, he married his partner, best friend and love Ricki (nee Blancke). Throughout his time in Collingwood, Robert was President of the Simcoe County Law Association and was appointed to Queen’s Council (1975). He had the privilege of representing the Town of Collingwood, Blue Mountain Resorts, and Hallman Lumber among others. For over 20 years Bob served on the Advisory Board for National Trust Company and was appointed as a legal member of the Ontario Review Board in 1998 where he became Alternate Chair in 2001. Community service was also a big part of Robert’s life; he was a member of Rotary where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award (1995), Probus Club member, previous Chair of Georgian Triangle Development Institute along with many other accomplishments. Bob spent both his remarkable life and career just 50 miles from where he was born; as he put it: “I guess my high school teacher was right when he said I wouldn’t go very far…” Sadly, Mr. Thompson passed away peacefully on Saturday January 1, 2011 at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital at age 78. His wife Ricki will forever hold him close to her heart. He will also be greatly missed by extended family members, colleagues from work and numerous friends across Canada. He is predeceased by his parents Albert and Veta Thompson. Visitation will take place on Wednesday January 5, 2011 at Fawcett Funeral Homes, Collingwood Chapel located at 82 Pine Street from 6-9 PM that evening. A funeral service will occur on Thursday January 6, 2011 at All Saints’ Anglican Church situated at 32 Elgin Street in Collingwood starting at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the General & Marine Hospital Foundation in memory of Mr. Thompson.
