John Walter Greenhill, husband to Cherri Greenhill, passed away on January 2, 2026. He was born in Toronto, ON Canada on April 7, 1946, the son of the late John (Jack) Greenhill Sr. and Mary Hoey Greenhill.

John had a passion for all things classic-from the cars he worked on to the music he enjoyed. For many years, he lived in Ontario where he played hockey and worked in sales before welcoming his daughter Marti Glover (Al). A few years later, he met Cherri at a dance (one of his favorite activities) in Mississauga. They married on March 10, 1976 in Toronto. Just over a year later, they celebrated the arrival of their beautiful baby boy Blair Greenhill (Brenda).

In 1985, John and Cherri decided to move to Mt. Pleasant, SC. He became more involved with nuclear power plants in the US and focused on ensuring their safety. John loved watching his sons (Blair and his stepson Duncan Campbell, who has since passed) play sports and embraced everything the Lowcountry had to offer. His love for Clemson University grew after Duncan enrolled there in 1988 followed by Blair in 1995.

Once Blair left for college, John and Cherri returned to Canada to be closer to Cherri’s mother Kathleen Grundy in Kitchener. They often traveled back and forth between the two countries trying to stay near family and ultimately settled down in Upstate South Carolina where John enjoyed being a devoted Poppa to his grandkids.

He will be deeply missed by his brother Michael Greenhill from Kitchener, ON Canada; sister Bonita from Canada; nephews Chris Greenhill of Burlington and Johnathan Greenhill of Hamilton, ON Canada; grandchildren Haven Campbell from Sandia Park, NM as well as Lauren, William, and Elisabeth Greenhill from Dunwoody, GA. Many friends along with aunts, uncles, and cousins are grieving this loss too.

A memorial service will take place on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2 p. m., at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home – located at 108 Cross Creek Rd., Central SC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
