Helen Sroga, our dear Babcia, ‘Helen of Haig’ from Windsor Ontario, peacefully left us on Sunday, July 12th, 2026. Surrounded by Sophie, Tony, Michael, and Samantha, she took her last breath at 3:20 p. m., moving on to be with God. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanislaw (Stanley) Sroga and is survived by daughter Sophie Jaroszewicz and son-in-law Anthony Jaroszewicz. Grandchildren include Michael Jaroszewicz and his wife Sonja Llancari as well as Samantha Miletic and her husband Julian Miletic. Great grandchildren are Gemma, Aurora, Sunny, and Henry.

Helen came to Canada from Poland with Stanley in the 1960s and they settled in Sudbury, Ontario. They were sponsored by Stanley’s brother Mieczyslaw Sroga who has since passed away but is survived by his wife Maria Sroga. In Sudbury they formed strong bonds within the Polish community where Helen worked as a waitress and later in the cafeteria at Sudbury General Hospital. Helen was an active member of St. Casimir’s Parish along with the Women’s Auxiliary and Dom Polski. She dedicated herself to making their house feel like home; she enjoyed gardening, picking blueberries, cooking meals for family gatherings and crafting pierogi for countless events over the years.

In 1997, Helen and Stanley moved to Windsor saying goodbye to their friends and family in Sudbury to help look after their grandchildren Michael and Samantha. Babcia and Dziadzia were always there for us. Babcia cooked our meals while Dziadzia drove our kids back and forth from school and various activities. Living next door meant we spent a lot of time together. Sadly, Dziadzia passed away too soon which was tough for Helen at first; however she leaned on her faith and family during that time. For the next 25 years we continued sharing life together as she cared for us all-her home filled with flowers-and every pet that joined our family brought her joy. Her calm demeanor paired with a strong work ethic made her truly special; she had a wonderful sense of humor blended with quiet elegance. Five years ago she started facing challenges with Dementia but we stood beside her through it all-now it was our turn to care for her just like she did for us over so many years. She fought bravely until heart failure took its toll; when it came time for her final moments we surrounded her with as much love as possible.

Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Arsic along with the entire staff for their exceptional compassion throughout this journey. Your kindness combined with professionalism provided comfort not only to Helen but also supported our whole family during such a difficult period in our lives.

Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (Central Chapel) located at 1700 Tecumseh Rd E (519-253-7234) on Friday July 17th from 2:00 – 5:00 p. m., then again from 7:00 – 9:00 p. m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday July 18th at 9:30 a. m., starting at the funeral home before proceeding to Holy Trinity Polish Catholic Church (1035 Ellis St E.) where Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a. m., followed by a luncheon afterward. Interment will occur at Heavenly Rest Cemetery (5005 Howard Ave.). To honor Helen’s memory donations can be made to Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare online condolences or shared memories may be submitted via www. windsorchapel. com
