Remembering Nancy Southerland

Nancy Davis Cox Southerland, age 93, a loving mother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home and went to her heavenly rest on Friday, October 24th, 2025.

She was born in Burnside, KY on August 7th, 1932 to the late William and Artie Griffith Davis.

Nancy was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She enjoyed volunteering with the Children and Youth programs and dedicated many years to Bible School and Team Kid (Beacon Kids).

She cherished time spent with her children and especially loved caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Watching UK Basketball and Football games with family and friends was one of her favorite pastimes along with other college sports.

Nancy previously worked at Bluegrass Oakwood. She volunteered for Senior Friends and looked forward to their trips.

She is survived by her daughter Annie Sims; son Al Cox (and Stephanie); daughter Paula Hargis (and husband Jerry); daughter Sharon Canada; daughters-in-law Marilyn Branscum Cox Elam and Cheryl Perkins Cox Flynn; grandchildren Stephanie (and husband Omar Meer), Damon Cox (and his fiancée Katrina Carroll), Jordan Cox, Christy and Jamie Cox, Dustin Hargis (and his wife Kayla), Michael Hargis (and wife Chris), John Hargis (and wife Ivy), Charles Canada (and wife Melissa), Raeann (and husband Cody Bates), Brandie (and husband Justin Adkins), Angie (and husband Russell Creech); stepsons Gary Sims (and wife Tracy) and Jeff Sims (and wife Dianna); great grandchildren Ian Shepard, Marshall Deen Meer, Noelle Meer, Jazmyne Cox, Aria Cox, Rhegan Iskerka, Grayson Cox, J. D. Hargis, Austin Mullins, Jeremiah Calder, Jayden Akin, Dominic Emerson and Jared Emerson; Autumn Ridner; Summer Coleman; Anthony Sims; Eddy Sims; Russell Brasfield; Jordan Sims; eight great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law Charlie Sims; a sister-in-law Brenda Sims; nieces; nephews; along with many other relatives, church family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Lee Southerland; first husband Robert Thomas “Bob Tom” Cox; two sons Robert Thomas “Tommy” Cox and Lester Dale Cox; daughter-in-law Dianne Hyden Cox; son-in-law Douglas Canada; parents William and Artie Griffith Davis as well as siblings Arvel Davis, Polly Flowers, Grace Decker, Margaret Morrow, Pearl Gibson, Robert Davis and Ariel Davis.

A celebration of Life service will be held on Friday October 31st 2025 at the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Jeremy Cole officiating. Burial will take place in Southern Oaks Cemetery.

The family of Nancy Davis Cox Southerland will welcome friends at Pulaski Funeral Home from 11:00 a. m. Friday until the service begins.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made through contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the Beacon Hill Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at Pulaski Funeral Home.

Pulaski Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
