Tragically, on Sunday, May 24, 2026, God welcomed the spirit of Janis Lee Knox nee Mitchelson.

Janis was born on November 19, 1963 to her parents Adela and Robert Mitchelson. She is survived by two sons, Philip and Brandon (Martina), along with three grandchildren: Brayden, Ridge, and Adela. She is also survived by her former husband Barry Knox. Additionally, her mother Adela Mitchelson and siblings Lori and Rob (Kaatje) remain. Uncle Terry (Jo Anne), Aunt Teresa, and many cousins will also miss her dearly. Janis was predeceased by her father Robert in 2025.

Janis spent her whole life in Thunder Bay. In her younger days, she cherished family road trips whether they were through Canada or the US or to the family cottage at Wolf River or her favorite Blue Lake. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, and campfires. Her brother often said she “ALWAYS” caught more fish than anyone else.

She had a real talent for interior design; her creativity showed in her home as well as others’. She thoroughly enjoyed working many years at the Airlane Hotel as catering manager where she loved meeting new people and doing everything she could to brighten their day.

A private family burial will be held on June 4 in the family plot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
