Net News Ledger Weather Desk | Saturday, October 24, 2026

THUNDER BAY, ON – This weekend in Northwestern Ontario is set to bring some shifting weather patterns. A warm Saturday will transition into cooler temperatures on Sunday, with frosty mornings returning by Monday.

Thunder Bay could see highs of 18°C on Saturday, which is about 10 degrees warmer than the average for this time in October. However, there’s a chance of showers, strong winds, and even a thunderstorm later in the day that might disrupt any outdoor plans.

By Monday, we’re looking at temperatures dropping down to around 5°C, with nighttime lows falling well below freezing.

This dramatic shift means folks should take advantage of the pleasant weather while gearing up for the chillier days coming soon.

Saturday, October 24: Mild Morning with Fog and Storm Potential

The day began in Thunder Bay with foggy skies and a temperature of 7.3°C recorded at Thunder Bay Airport at 5 a. m.

Visibility was reduced to just 400 metres due to humidity hitting 100 percent and a light north-northwest wind blowing at 5 km/h. The barometric pressure stood at 102.4 k Pa and was slowly decreasing.

The fog is expected to lift as the morning progresses.

Environment Canada forecasts a mix of sun and clouds along with a 60 percent chance of showers during both early morning and late afternoon hours. There’s also the possibility of thunderstorms developing late in the day.

Southeast winds will pick up during the afternoon at speeds of around 20 km/h, gusting up to 40 km/h. The high temperature will reach about 18°C.

The UV index today is rated as low at just 2.

Saturday Night

A few showers may linger into early evening alongside some risk for thunderstorms. Conditions are likely to clear overnight as temperatures drop down to around 2°C.

If you’re heading out Saturday night, it’s wise to wear a rain-resistant jacket since it’ll feel much cooler after sunset.

Sunday, October 25: Sunshine Returns but Cooler Air Moves In

This Sunday should offer better weather overall across Thunder Bay.

The updated forecast from Environment Canada suggests sunshine throughout the day with westerly winds picking up to about 20 km/h and gusting up to 40 km/h in the morning hours.

The high temperature for Sunday is expected near approximately 13°C.

This still counts as mild for late October but noticeably cooler compared to Saturday’s warmth.

As night falls on Sunday, skies will remain clear allowing temperatures to plunge down to -4°C.

This brings an increased risk of frost as well as icy patches forming where water remains on untreated surfaces.

Monday, October 26: Sunny Yet Much Colder

The start of Monday marks a return to more typical late-October conditions. p >

Environment Canada predicts sunshine with daytime highs only reaching around 5 °C. p >

Mornings will be particularly brisk following Sunday’s overnight low of -4 °C. p >

Temperatures are expected to drop even further Monday night , hitting around -6 °C. p >

Residents should check outdoor water connections , protect sensitive plants , and prepare for frost on vehicles. p >

This cooling trend serves as a reminder that winter is approaching despite Saturday’s brief spell of warmer weather. p >

Weather Across Thunder Bay and Surrounding Communities

The warm conditions on Saturday are expected throughout much of Thunder Bay District including Kakabeka Falls , Oliver Paipoonge , Neebing , Shuniah , Dorion , Red Rock , and Nipigon. p >

However communities farther from Lake Superior might experience colder overnight temperatures especially over Sunday & Monday. p >

    Atikokan

#Thunder Bay #Thunder Bay Weather #Northwestern Ontario #Kakabeka Falls #Nipigon #Atikokan #Lake Superior #Ontario Weather #Fall Weather #Net News Ledger
