In Loving Memory of William “Bill” Garnet Mc Bride
Born on November 18, 1934, in Blind River, Ontario, William “Bill” Garnet Mc Bride passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of fond memories, strong family ties, and many friendships.
He was predeceased by his caring parents, Leonard “Roy” Mc Bride and Evelyn Mc Bride, as well as his sister, Gail Calvert along with ex-wife & lifelong friend Julia Mc Bride-Bibby (nee Fields). He is lovingly remembered by his children Bryant (Tina), Kimberly, and Christine (George), along with his sister Barb and brothers Bud, Al Wayne, and Ron. His absence will be felt every day by his grandchildren Jefferey, Jake (Jared), Mari and Cleo as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
His family moved to Sault Ste Marie when Bill was just six. He attended Mc Fadden Elementary School before graduating from Sault Technical and Commercial High School (“Tech”) in Sault Ste. Marie. His interest in technology led him to Ryerson University where he studied Radio and Television Technology. After earning his diploma he began working at Union Carbide Linde in Canada.
He dedicated 41 years of service to Union Carbide Linde (formerly Praxair), gaining the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic and reliability. While on one of his cross-country driving trips to Las Vegas in August 1970 he met Julia Fields in Chicago, Illinois. What started as a chance encounter blossomed into a loving marriage where they created a wonderful family in Sault Ste Marie filled with love and support. Even after their divorce they remained close friends until Julia’s passing in 2025. They always prioritized their children & grandchildren.
A devoted family man at heart, he cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren as well as his brothers Bud & Al. Retirement allowed him to indulge one of his greatest joys-traveling to visit family in Boston, New York City, and New Orleans while also spending most winters basking in the sunshine of New Port Richey, Florida.
Adventure was never something he shied away from; he had a natural curiosity for the world around him. His travels took him across many countries where he made lasting memories wherever he went. Whether discovering new places or enjoying the comfort of home life he embraced everything with wit, enthusiasm and optimism.
A lifelong golf enthusiast too-whether watching tournaments or enjoying a day out on the course with loved ones-golf brought him much happiness along with countless memorable moments. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, kind hearted nature quiet strength together with an immense love for family. Although there’s deep sadness over his passinghis loveand all those shared moments will stay alive withinhis familyand friends forever.
