March 24, 1928 – August 9, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and Nonni Flora Rosaria (Lanoce) Massicci. She left us peacefully at the age of 98, surrounded by her loving family.
Flora was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, March 24, 1928 to Corradino and Ida Lanoce. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School where she was taught by the kind sister Corona and Father L. Balcastro, whom she often remembered fondly.
As a teenager, Flora found out she had relatives in California and persuaded her father to take her to visit them. During one of those trips to California, she met Louis Albert Massicci, Sr., who would become the love of her life. After a brief long-distance romance, they wed on June 1, 1949 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Catholic parish in Sault Ste. Marie.
Flora and Louie built their first home on Michigan Avenue in Fresno, CA in 1950 where they raised their two sons: John and Louie (Lou Jr.). Flora was an incredible homemaker who did it all-she cooked delicious meals, baked treats, tended to the yardwork, canned tomatoes and olives for family favorites, and even made wine with her husband.
Flora leaves behind her son Lou (Becky), along with their two sons Michael (Renee) and Ryan (Hannah). Also surviving are Janet Massicci who was married to John Massicci and their two children: John Paul and his wife Maria (Eliana, Diego, and David), Michelle Perez (Leo, Lucas, Lily); as well as her eldest granddaughter Gina Blodgett (Brian) with their two sons Brandon and Braden.
Flora was preceded in death by her husband Louis Sr., parents Corradino and Ida; brother John (Clipper) Lanoce (wife Erma and daughter Lori Anne); as well as her son John David.
A visitation along with a Rosary will be held Thursday evening at Holy Spirit Catholic Church starting at 6:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by her burial at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers , donations can be made in memory of Flora to Catholic Charities Diocese of Fresno.
