Marvin Jacob Slobodian peacefully passed away on July 17, 2026. He was born in Thunder Bay on December 7, 1937, to the late John and Pearl Slobodian. After completing his studies at Selkirk Vocational High School, Marvin married Marilyn in (1956) and started a new chapter in life with her. They welcomed their first child, Charlene, followed by their son Brad a few years later. He then embarked on a successful 35-year journey at the Great Lakes Paper Mill. A huge baseball enthusiast, he shone as a fastball pitcher for the local “Ukes” baseball team during the late ’60s and early ’70s and never missed a game.
Marvin is survived by his devoted wife of (70) years, Marilyn; son Brad (Carla); granddaughters Marisa and Christina; great-granddaughter Quinn; sister-in-law Judith (Josef) Novak; brothers-in-law Gerald Krupa (Lois) and Michael Krupa (Sandra); sister-in-law Deborah Krupa; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Charlene, brother-in-law Mel, brother David (Helen), and sister Dolores.
People will remember Marvin for his sharp wit, humor, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to his family. He truly enjoyed life and appreciated everyone who shared it with him. His absence will be deeply felt.
In line with Marvin’s wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life service. A private family interment is planned for a later date. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or any charity you choose.
