With heavy hearts, our family shares the news of Tony (Hugh) Hill’s passing at the age of 73 in Barrie, Ontario on March 29th, 2026.
Tony was born on November 11th, 1952 to Zena and Lloyd Hill in Huntsville, Ontario. He was the younger brother to his sisters Gay and Joy. Growing up in Hillside, he was surrounded by a caring family and wonderful friends including his honorary brother, Bruce Ransom. This loving environment helped him cultivate a “can do” attitude that influenced every area of his life-his work, family, friendships, as well as his interests.
In 1972, Tony moved from Huntsville to study Respiratory Therapy at the Toronto Institute of Medical Technology (TIMT). He made lifelong friends during this time and throughout his training. His career spanned various hospitals and organizations. He met Linda while they both worked at Etobicoke General Hospital; he was sent to the cafeteria by their boss just to “check out the new girl!” In his later years before retirement, he enjoyed working at Southlake Hospital alongside a fantastic team of therapists.
Tony had a zest for adventure. After just one year as a respiratory therapist, he sold his car and traveled through Europe for six months with his best friend John Malone. They explored extensively from Amsterdam to Greece while backpacking across many countries. This love for travel continued when he took day trips with Linda in his cherished ’76 Triumph Spitfire through rural Ontario and longer trips with close friends to places like Manitoulin Island, Killarney Provincial Park, Alexandria Bay New York, Woodstock New York, and Cape Cod. A huge Bob Dylan fan, Tony was excited when he found the country house where Bob recorded his “Music from the Big Pink album.” He also loved playing guitar and jamming with friends.
The outdoors held a special place in Tony’s heart. He was proud to be part of the Loon Lake Hunt Club where he served on the board and as president for two years. With fond memories of hunting and fishing shared with Lloyd and James at their property there-especially during Father-Son weekends-this club brought him great joy.
Tony is survived by his wife Linda (née Crowe); son James and daughter-in-law Tina (née Swatton); granddaughter Belle; sister Sue Hamilton along with her husband Charles; brother-in-law William (Bill) Mootz; nephew Paul Mootz; niece Andrea Pulford (née Swan), her husband Rob Pulford along with their sons Nathan and Liam; plus dear friends Jim Orton & Sheila Orton; Dan Hope & Nilamma Hope; John Malone & Patti Malone.
He is predeceased by parents Lloyd and Zena Hill; sisters Joy (Mootz) and Gay (Swan); brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Swan; as well as nephew Robert (Robbie) Swan.
Our family kindly asks that instead of flowers you consider donating to Hospice Simcoe located at 336 Penetanguishine Road in Barrie. The staff along with Dr. Lai provided outstanding care for Tony during his last days which greatly supported our family during this time.
Visitation will take place on April 7th, 2026 from 6-9 pm at Legacy Funeral Home located at 55 Cedar Pointe Drive in Barrie (parking available on Hwy 400 side of building).
