A woman has lost her life after a collision on Highway 403 in Oakville on Thursday night.
A 78-year-old driver was killed, while her 67-year-old female passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, following an incident in the westbound lanes of Highway 403 near Dundas Street around 9:30 p. m., according to Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
The SUV the women were driving had broken down in a live lane of the highway, Schmidt explained.
Emergency services were en route when the SUV was struck by an approaching tractor-trailer before they could arrive, he said.
The 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, he stated.
According to him, the driver of the tractor-trailer did not suffer any injuries.
The highway remained closed for several hours but reopened shortly after 4 a. m.
