An 83-year-old woman has passed away after driving the wrong way on the highway and crashing in Oakville Friday night, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers responded around 10:10 p. m. to reports of a vehicle going the wrong direction on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and shortly after received information that the same vehicle had collided with a sedan, OPP said in a news release Saturday.
Both drivers were initially assessed for minor injuries and taken to hospital. The condition of the 83-year-old then worsened, leading to her death at the hospital, as stated in the release.
The QEW and Trafalgar Road have reopened following closures.
The OPP is asking anyone with information or video footage to reach out to investigators.
