What’s Open and Closed for Family Day 2026

Family Day 2026 falls on Monday, February 16 in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton, Niagara Region, Durham Region and throughout Ontario. Many are curious about what’s available and what will be closed on this holiday.

This holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of February across Ontario and offers a long weekend right in the middle of winter.

If you’re looking to shop, eat out, check out local attractions or run errands, here’s a rundown of what’s open and closed around the GTA and nearby areas on Family Day 2026.

Here’s the list of what’s open and closed in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton, Niagara Region and Durham Region:

Mississauga

Open

On Monday, Feb. 16, folks can visit Square One Shopping Centre (the Walmart and Whole Foods will also be operating), some smaller grocery stores (like Rabba locations), most drug stores and pharmacies as well as many restaurants, bars and cafes that usually stay open on Mondays. Federal government offices and the Celebration Square ice rink will be accessible too. Canada Post will be in service as well.

Closed

A variety of businesses and attractions will be shut down on Monday including Erin Mills Town Centre, Heartland Town Centre, Dixie Outlet Mall along with other major malls in the area. Most big grocery stores like Beer Store and LCBO locations will also close their doors along with banks , libraries , and non-emergency provincial or municipal offices (including City Hall).

If you use transit services note that Mi Way will run a holiday schedule (check online) while GO Transit operates under a Saturday schedule.

Waste collection will take place one day later than usual.

Toronto

Open

In Toronto on Family Day some shopping centres along with grocery stores will remain open including Eaton Centre , Eataly (all locations) , Rabba grocery stores , Summerhill Market , Wellington Market , Wine Rack locations along with Waterworks Food Hall. Most tourist spots such as Ripley’s Aquarium , the AGO , the Toronto Zoo , the ROM , the CN Tower , the Aga Khan Museum , Casa Loma , Allan Gardens Conservatory , Centennial Park Conservatory along with The Well and Riverdale Farm should also welcome visitors. Bars, cafes, and restaurants typically operating on Mondays are likely to be available but it’s smart to call ahead first. Most drug stores and pharmacies should still be functioning. Canada Post operations continue normally too.

Closed

A number of places like non-emergency provincial and municipal offices (City Hall included) banks and libraries will not be open. The St. Lawrence Market all LCBO and Beer Store branches Dufferin Mall Yorkdale Sherway Gardens Scarborough Town Centre plus most major grocery outlets won’t be welcoming customers either.

The TTC plans to provide holiday service while GO Transit continues its Saturday schedule.

No changes are expected for waste collection services.

Brampton

Open

On Feb. 16 plenty of spots including movie theatres most drugstores pharmacies some smaller grocers like Rabba corner shops convenience stores cafes restaurants bars that normally operate on Mondays (it’s wise to call ahead) select recreation centres Peel Art Gallery Museum Archives (with free entry) plus essential government services are going to welcome visitors. Bramalea City Centre opens with reduced hours.

You’ll find Canada Post is running as normal too.

Closed

A range of establishments from LCBO Beer Store outlets Shoppers World major grocery retailers libraries banks Brampton Animal Shelter alongside all non-emergency provincial municipal offices (like City Hall) won’t operate at all.
