Authorities in Peel Region are on the lookout for a driver who hit and killed a woman in her 30s in Mississauga early Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the area near Eglinton Avenue and Erin Mills Parkway shortly after 6 a. m. following reports that a pedestrian had been struck and the driver had left the scene.

Emergency responders found a 38-year-old woman at the location, who was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

Investigators believe that the vehicle involved in this hit-and-run is a white 2015-2020 Mercedes GLA 250 or 45 Series. Photos have been shared with the public.

“There was a lot of preliminary information suggesting that it was a light-coloured vehicle that fled the scene. We have since determined that that vehicle is one of our complainants, so not a light-coloured sedan,” said Sgt. Tyler Bell.

“There’s some debris here on scene that our Major Collision Bureau is processing and they’re quite confident they are able to identify the make and model of the vehicle based on the debris.”

According to investigators, the driver was heading eastbound on Eglinton Avenue when they struck the woman, then continued east towards Toronto.

“There’s absolutely no reason that anyone who hit a pedestrian, especially at the speed we believed this happened, would not know that they have struck somebody,” said Bell. “We are under the impression that there is going to be substantial front-end damage to the vehicle, the hood and windshield as well.”

Bell mentioned that investigators will be reviewing “substantial” dashcam and CCTV footage from around the area to help pinpoint which vehicle is involved, adding it’s only a matter of time before they find out who’s responsible.

“You know you hit somebody, lawyer up and turn yourself in to police.”

The police are also urging local automotive businesses to reach out if they encounter anyone with front-end damage on their vehicle.
