In the aftermath of a tragic accident in Puslinch Township that claimed the lives of four teenagers and sent two others to the hospital, the community is still reeling from the loss.
“We understand that a tragedy like this affects everyone deeply, not just those directly involved but also the wider community,” Mayor James Seeley wrote in a post on the township’s Facebook page Monday evening.
“We also want to recognize the first responders who arrived at the scene and those who continue to provide care and support to all impacted. We appreciate their dedication under such tough circumstances.”
Emergency crews were dispatched to Watson Road South just north of Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch Township shortly after 1:30 a. m. ET Saturday due to a single-vehicle accident.
The rural area is roughly 14 kilometers south of Guelph. There’s an S-curve there, with a speed limit reducing from 50 km/h to 40 km/h, along with a sign warning drivers, “Slow: dangerous curve ahead.”
The deceased include two males-both aged 19, one hailing from Mississauga and another from Brampton-a 17-year-old girl from Mississauga, and a 15-year-old girl from Milton.
Two other individuals were hospitalized: a 17-year-old girl suffering life-altering injuries and a 16-year-old girl with injuries that aren’t life-threatening, both residents of Mississauga.
Road Remains Closed for Repairs
Ontario Provincial Police Insp. Karen Medeiros mentioned at a news conference Sunday that this crash “has affected numerous families, schools, friend groups, and communities across southern Ontario.”
Medeiros stated that investigators will examine whether speeding or seatbelt usage played any role.
As of Tuesday, Watson Road South remains closed while township crews work on repairing guardrails near where the crash took place.
