The first victim was located in a burning car in the rural area of Markham; the second was found about 90 minutes later in Etobicoke.
Toronto police are looking into the city’s 27th and 28th homicides this year after two bodies were discovered inside burning cars at different locations in the eastern and western parts of the city.
On Monday, just before 11:30 p. m., officers came across the first vehicle ablaze in a field in Markham, near Reesor Road and Steeles Avenue, an area surrounded by Rouge National Urban Park.
Around 90 minutes later, they found the second vehicle on fire in James Gardens Park in Etobicoke, close to Royal York Road and Edenbridge Road.
Authorities reported that one victim was located inside each vehicle, with both being declared dead at the scene.
In an update on Friday, Det. Sgt. Henri Marsman named the victim found at Reesor Road and Steeles Avenue as 32-year-old Marcus Charles.
The identity of the second victim is still pending confirmation.
Both individuals suffered fatal gunshot wounds prior to the fires, according to Marsman; however, he couldn’t confirm when exactly these events occurred.
The police also stated that it’s too early to determine if there is a connection between the vehicle fires and did not provide any details about possible suspects.
The Toronto Police Service is asking for help from the public regarding both incidents.
