GO train services on the Lakeshore West line will face interruptions this weekend as Metrolinx conducts significant track upgrades designed to enhance speed and frequency of service.
The disruptions will impact travelers between Toronto, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, and Niagara Falls on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18.
During this two-day halt, regular Lakeshore West trains will only run between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO stations, as well as from Oakville GO to Union Station in Toronto.
There won’t be any GO train service between Aldershot and Oakville, meaning passengers traveling that route will need to take replacement buses or find other travel options.
<p Trains that start or end at Confederation GO in Hamilton and West Harbour GO in Hamilton won't operate during this closure.
Metrolinx states that replacement buses will connect West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, and Oakville GO stations for passengers needing to access train services. However, these buses won’t stop at Appleby or Bronte GO stations.
Travelers using Appleby and Bronte stations can catch regularly scheduled early-morning and late-evening GO buses. There won’t be any service at those stations outside of those times, so riders should check the schedules closely before heading out.
The track work is part of the GO Expansion initiative aimed at improving the regional rail system and enabling more frequent service.
This situation will extend into next week but on a smaller scale. On Monday, Oct. 19, arrival and departure times for trains may be adjusted by up to five minutes earlier or later than usual. Some late-night schedule changes are also planned for Friday, Oct. 16.
