A young person from Toronto has lost their life after being hit by a car on Highway 401 in Scarborough late Thursday night, leading to major lane closures overnight.
The OPP Highway Safety Division in Toronto reported that officers were dispatched around 10:25 p. m. to the westbound collector lanes of Highway 401 at Mc Cowan Road following calls about a collision between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers found the pedestrian – identified only as a young person from Toronto – who was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say there’s no indication of foul play.
All westbound collector lanes between Markham Road and Mc Cowan Road were closed for several hours while OPP investigators and a reconstructionist examined the area. The lanes have since reopened.
The driver involved stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No charges have been filed so far.
Police are asking anyone who might have seen the collision or who was driving nearby with dashcam footage to get in touch with the OPP.
