A 61-year-old man has died following a crash in Markham late Monday afternoon.

According to York Regional Police, just before 5:40 p. m., a Volkswagen and Honda collided at the intersection of Reesor Road and 16th Avenue.

Two adult males were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities later confirmed that one of the drivers, a 61-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The second driver, a 50-year-old male, is still in the hospital with serious injuries.

Reesor Road between Highway 7 and 16th Avenue remains closed while police investigate the collision.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, as is whether any other parties were involved.
