Students at a London career college arrived for class last week ready to take a quiz.

Instead, students in the massage therapy program at tri OS College were informed by their instructor that their fellow student, Raman Devi, had been killed the day before.

“I’ve never seen so many people crying Wednesday morning,” said classmate Charlene Hachey. “There are no words for that type of loss, to be honest.”

Devi was found seriously injured at her home on 685 Chelton Rd., near Commissioners Road and Highbury Avenue, after police responded to a “violent incident” around 6:25 p. m. Tuesday.

She later succumbed to her injuries and police apprehended a man at the scene. Mandeep Singh, 41, faces charges of second-degree murder.

Hachey mentioned that classes were canceled for the remaining week for the 18 students in the close-knit massage therapy program.

“So many hearts have been broken this last week,” she said, trying to hold back tears.

“It’s been like a family in that classroom. It hit everyone very hard.”

Devi had previously trained as a personal support worker and began her massage therapy studies in March 2025, with graduation expected in February, according to Hachey.

“She had her life together. She had a strong head on her shoulders,” Hachey said.

Grief counselors were made available for students along with access to a 24-hour mental health support line, said tri OS College president Craig Donaldson.

“We are deeply saddened by the news about Raman and offer our sincere condolences to her family,” Donaldson stated in an email.

Classes have resumed for the massage therapy students and their quiz has been rescheduled, he added.

London police remained at Devi’s Chelton Road residence until Friday while forensic investigators took photographs and collected evidence from boxes they removed from the site.

According to neighbors, Devi lived in the house with her husband, mother, six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son.

Sam Awdi, who resides across the street, reported hearing screaming outside Tuesday evening before he saw Devi’s mother desperately running out of the house with her two grandchildren.

“She came out hitting herself,” he recalled about seeing the distressed woman.

Investigators have classified Devi’s death as femicide-indicating it was gender-based violence against women and girls.

Police haven’t disclosed details about how she died; this marks the city’s fourth homicide of the year.

Singh made a brief court appearance via video on Friday; his next court date is set for Wednesday so he can apply for legal aid and secure an attorney.

Sandra Sanchez, one of Devi’s classmates, started an online fundraiser which has raised nearly $6,000 to assist her family during this difficult time.

“Her presence brought love and joy to those around her, and she will forever hold a special place in our hearts,” Sanchez wrote.

<p class="wp-block-paragraph “Above all," she was a loving mother; her children were her world and family meant everything to her. Losing a mother is an unimaginable loss especially for those kids who now face life without her.”Hachey expressed feeling uneasy about returning to school at First Street where Devi’s laughter often filled both hallways as well as classrooms.
