A severe thunderstorm alert is still in place for London, Parkhill, and eastern Middlesex County as a band of storms travels through southwestern Ontario Tuesday afternoon.

Environment Canada updated the warning at 2:04 p. m., stating that meteorologists are monitoring a system of severe thunderstorms that could produce wind gusts reaching up to 90 kilometres an hour along with heavy rain totaling between 15 and 50 millimetres.

Areas anticipated to be affected by the storm include:

London Thamesford Woodstock

Environment Canada warns that heavy rainfall might lead to flash flooding and drastically lower visibility. Strong wind gusts could also break tree branches and result in localized power outages. The agency advises drivers not to navigate flooded roads.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that individuals seek shelter immediately if dangerous weather approaches.

Residents should keep an eye on forecasts and weather alerts from Environment Canada as conditions change.

Earlier on Tuesday, Environment Canada indicated that these storms might also create large hail, but this risk has been removed from the most recent warning.

A severe thunderstorm watch is still active for other regions in southwestern Ontario, including Kitchener-Waterloo, Windsor, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia.
