A closure lasting 10 hours on Highway 401 eastbound through Cambridge on Saturday resulted in the tragic death of a man from Kitchener.
Nine vehicles were involved in the crash near Townline Road around 12:30 p. m. that day.
The eastbound lanes remained shut down until just before 11:00 p. m.
On Monday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed that a driver from Kitchener who was taken to a trauma center has passed away.
The driver was 44 years old.

Details about the crash are limited, with OPP still seeking witnesses and dashcam footage to aid their investigation.
Photos and videos shared online depict wreckage and vehicles scattered across all eastbound lanes of the highway. At least one car was seen flipped over in a ditch, while a transport truck had crashed into the center median.
OPP have not provided any information regarding potential charges related to the incident or what may have caused the multi-vehicle crash.
