The St. Lawrence River near Brockville measures atBrockville’s reading is at 75.07 metres since March 1.The lake stands 0.84 metres (above)flood elevation(above)and below the river's level of 0.65 metres&nbsp.; https://ijc. org/en/water-levels-continue-rise-lake-ontario-st-lawrence-river-basin"Extremely wet weather caused water supplies in April to exceed prescribed plan outflows," ILO-SLRB said in its May 1 statement."Because of Ottawa River freshet-an annual spring rise mainly due to rapid snowmelt and heavy rains-and increasing water levels in St. Lawrence River,” they began applying their F limit starting April 16, 2026 as set forth under Regulation Plan 2014."The Kingston Whig-Standard's Noon News RoundupYour weekday lunchtime roundup of curated links , news highlights , analysis , and features.`Enter Email Address`Get email updates from your favourite authorsorThe F limit sets maximum outflows based on Lake St. Louis (measured at Pointe Claire) so that downstream flooding can be limited," according to organization representatives."As of April 30 , we’re currently operating under tier two of this F limit," they continued."With rising levels of Lake Ontario comes an increase for target levels at Lake St. Louis too allowing for higher outflow while taking into account high-water impact upstream as well as downstream along lower St. Lawrence." Past records indicate that coastal properties nearby-like marinas , yacht clubs-along with municipal assets can be affected when levels reach up towards about&nbsp ;75.5metres. There’s potential for issues concerning shoreline docks , boathouses , some island access being reported during storms."This advertisement has not loaded yet but will continue below. This level also tends towards normal operations regarding boat ramps or fixed docks around various marine facilities needing adjustments for further use. Municipalities might face diminished sewer capacity alongside risks like inundation or erosion impacting public assets along shorelines plus possible flooding affecting trails , parks or municipal boat ramps located near these areas. "The majority major impacts usually arise only once static water exceeds&quot ;75.5metres," it stated but localized effects driven through wave actions may start occurring earlier than those thresholds.". While flooding isn't expected right now,", Cataraqui Conservation advises that strong winds combined with moderately high water could lead toward localized flooding risks across vulnerable spots bordering Lake Ontario’s shores downriver along similar sections within St. Lawrence. “Adjustments concerning outflows will happen frequently following Regulation Plan2014 keeping both upstream &downstream factors into consideration.” They noted typically peak levels for lakes are seen during June once spring precipitation eases off before entering seasonal declines." Depending upon how much rain falls until June approaches,” officials remarked current readings seem headed towards peaks ranging between approximately&rdquo ;75.40&rdquo ; to &ldquo ;75.50&rdqu o;. However,” if wetter conditions prevail there exists chances fo reaching even higher numbers.” They explained predicting long-term conditions remains tricky similarly akin forecasting weather patterns." Lake Ontario has achieved above70 measure mark reached within33%of previous years after1960recorded.” While although rising figures show higher average nothing outside typical ranges detected so far.” Also consistently check surroundings regularly while monitoring fluctuating conditions." Water-levels report uploaded every week available online via www. ijc. org/en/loslrb/watershed/water-levels. "We don’t expect events like those experienced back during record-highs observed throughout2017and2019(especially touching around78m upwardsat Kingston/Brockville nearby). However when numbers climb past73 point maybe difficult times arise especially considering certain sites involved.” For further updates please visit www. cataraquiconservation. ca/pages/flood.- The Whig-StandardArticle contentShare this article within social networks..[ad_2]Source link
