“Please be advised that the earlier reported issue with the 9-1-1 network HAS BEEN RESOLVED,” Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer with Kingston Police, stated in an email.
Residents can now use the standard 911 number again in case of emergencies.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) also reported that 911 services are “largely stabilized.”
“The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is aware that the 9-1-1 system has largely stabilized. All OPP Provincial Communications Centres across the province are once again receiving and processing 9-1-1 calls,” stated the OPP in a press release issued at 11 a. m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026.
“While the 9-1-1 system seems to be mostly restored, there may still be some occasional disruptions. If you can’t reach the OPP by dialing 9-1-1, please call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122. Do not call 9-1-1 just to test if it works for you.”
The provincial police expressed gratitude to phone network providers for “expediting the restoration” of the 911 system.
The reason behind these network outages hasn’t been revealed yet. Kingstonist has reached out to OPP corporate offices regarding this issue.

Earlier today, police agencies began reporting intermittent outages affecting the statewide 911 service.
Around 5:30 a. m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, both Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Kingston Police released statements notifying people about this outage.
No specific details were given about what caused this outage or when it would be resolved.
“Members of the public requiring emergency police response are urged to call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122, which remains fully operational,” said the OPP in their statement.
“Members of the public should not call 9-1-1 for information or updates or to test if it’s working unless they’re in an emergency situation.”
Kingston Police provided similar guidance:
“The public is urged to call Kingston Police’s non-emergency line at 613-549-4660 if they’re unable to reach us via 9-1-1 and need emergency police assistance,” stated local law enforcement.
Both agencies mentioned that they continue responding to calls during this outage and will share updates when they have more information.
“The OPP is working with service providers to expedite restoring full access to our services,” noted the provincial police force.
