Authorities are searching for Mason Jenkins, an inmate from Chatham, who was unaccounted for during a count at the minimum-security Collins Bay Institution, according to Kingston police.
The Correctional Service of Canada reported that staff noticed Jenkins, 49, was missing during a formal count at 11:15 a. m.
He is described as a white male, five-foot-nine, weighing around 255 pounds with fair skin, brown eyes, and brown hair that is currently shaved bald.
Jenkins was last seen wearing a light green jacket, blue jeans, and rubber boots.
Currently serving a life sentence for first-degree murder and trafficking, Jenkins was convicted in connection with his sister’s death.
When he was sentenced in Chatham on January 12, 2001, Jenkins denied killing his sister Jennifer. The 18-year-old was described as a friendly and lively student at Chatham Collegiate Institute with good grades and many friends; she had been shot five times in the head and chest in her family room on January 6, 1998.

The case drew significant attention when the complex trial began on October 4, 2000.
A mistrial was nearly declared after defense lawyer Clay Powell withdrew while Jenkins testified. He left on November 24 due to concerns about misleading the court after learning new information from Jenkins.
Powell requested to leave just one day after Jenkins claimed on the stand that a previous attorney had suggested he lie about having used the murder weapon.
By the end of the trial proceedings, Jenkins had cycled through five different lawyers.
Evidence presented during the trial indicated that Jenkins took a cab to what used to be the Golden Tap just hours after his sister’s death.
Jenkins later fled Chatham on horseback and several witnesses testified about seeing him ride along railroad tracks near Taylor Avenue and crossing Black Bridge over the Thames River.
He was subsequently spotted on railway tracks across from Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police found him sleeping in the back of a stolen Bronco truck near Blenheim the morning following his sister’s body being discovered.
Testimony from officers present stated that Jenkins threatened to use a bomb when approached by them causing officers to take cover.
It turned out to be just a Sonic Boom firecracker.

In an interview recorded on video after his arrest-which was shown to jurors-Jenkins shared an odd story about four men breaking into their home on January 6, 1998 and taking him away while supposedly killing his sister afterward.
In 2010, both Jenkins and his parents Brian and Leslie appeared in the documentary Life with Murder which depicted their love for him despite experiencing such profound loss because of him.
