Authorities report that a 25-year-old man, who was wanted for his involvement in a deadly motorcycle accident in Hamilton five years ago, was taken into custody in New York this week on charges of gun smuggling.
According to Hamilton Police, New York State Police stopped Faizan Ali near Liberty, N. Y. on Thursday while he was traveling with two other men from Hamilton.
The FBI stated that during a search of the vehicle, they discovered an “unusually heavy suitcase,” which they claim was packed with firearms.
The federal agency revealed there were a total of 89 guns found in the vehicle, including at least 17 that had been reported stolen. The men are accused of attempting to smuggle these weapons into Canada.
In July 2024, Hamilton police announced that Ali had been found guilty in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash from three years earlier but was released before his sentencing and failed to appear for his next court date.
They indicated he had been evading authorities ever since and is now detained by police in the United States.
