Two individuals have lost their lives following a small plane crash in southwestern Ontario.
Ontario Provincial Police report that emergency responders were dispatched to a field close to the intersection of Beatty Line and Wellington Road 17, just outside Fergus, around 10:15 a. m. on Friday.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) stated that an amateur-built Skybolt biplane took off from the Fergus airport at around 10 a. m. as part of a local aerobatic training session with two skilled pilots on board.
“The aircraft crashed shortly afterward in a cornfield 2 kilometers northwest of the airfield and ended up resting upside down,” the TSB said in a brief statement.
The provincial police mentioned that a fire that broke out after the crash was put out, and both people in the plane were declared dead at the scene.
The ages, genders, and hometowns of the victims have not been disclosed yet.
The TSB indicated that it will continue to collect and analyze information over the next few weeks to find out what led to the crash.
