The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Ontario is looking into a crash that took place in Burlington, leaving a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy with serious injuries.

As reported by the police watchdog, on early Tuesday morning, Halton Regional Police Service got two reports about home invasions – one from Oakville and another from Milton – along with details regarding the vehicle tied to both events.

At approximately 4:20 a. m., an officer spotted the vehicle of interest near Appleby Line and Number 2 Side Road, according to a news release from the SIU. The officer began following the vehicle as it traveled northbound on Appleby Line.

While this was happening, police set up a tire deflation device on Appleby Line, just north of Number 4 Side Road, as mentioned by the SIU. Shortly after, near Appleby Line and Britannia Road, the vehicle crashed into a utility pole.

Five males who were in the vehicle were arrested and taken to the hospital; two of them sustained serious injuries, stated the SIU.

The SIU investigates incidents involving serious injury or death related to police actions, including cases where officers discharge firearms at individuals or allegations of sexual assault involving law enforcement.

According to the SIU, three investigators along with two forensic experts and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to this case.

If anyone has more information about this incident, they are encouraged to reach out to the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
