A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a car whose driver left the scene on an off-ramp of Highway 410 in Brampton early Thursday morning.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the incident occurred around 12:20 a. m. on the northbound Highway 410 off-ramp leading to Steeles Avenue.

Emergency responders arrived after reports indicated that a pedestrian had been struck while in active traffic lanes. The woman was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities report that the driver did not stop following the collision and are now seeking assistance from the public to identify both the vehicle and its operator.

Police believe the suspect vehicle is a Jeep Cherokee, which may have some damage to its front bumper grille and hood due to the crash.

Debris found at the scene has aided investigators in narrowing down the make and model of this SUV.

The identity of the victim has not been disclosed yet.

“We need your assistance,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said. “We are in the process of identifying this female.”

The off-ramp from Highway 410 northbound to Steeles Avenue was closed for several hours as officers conducted their investigation before it reopened around 4 a. m.

The inquiry is still ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash camera or surveillance footage from that area between 12 a. m. and 12:25 a. m. on Aug. 6 is urged to reach out to Mississauga OPP at 1-888-310-1122, referencing E261126886.
