An elderly man has died following a house fire in Brampton Wednesday night, according to Peel police.
Emergency services received several calls just after 11 p. m. regarding a fire at a semi-detached home near Royal Salisbury Way and Archdekin Drive, stated Brampton fire Chief Andy Glynn at the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the residence and thick smoke inside. They discovered a man on the second floor and quickly evacuated him, said Glynn.
Peel paramedics reported that one individual was pronounced dead at the scene, and no one was taken to the hospital.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and community and all those involved with this unfortunate tragedy,” Glynn mentioned.
No other occupants were present during the fire; two residents were away for the evening, he added.
The blaze has been extinguished, and Brampton fire crews are still on-site to assist with the investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal, according to City of Brampton spokesperson Sevdia Rama.

The home is classified as a two-unit apartment building, noted Glynn, adding that residents next door had safely evacuated without any damage inside their unit.
While it looks like the fire might have started on the second floor, Glynn explained that confirmation would come through investigations by the Fire Marshal’s office.
They will also check if smoke alarms in the house were operational; however, crews did not hear any alarms when they arrived.
The second floor sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, reported Glynn.
