Authorities found a body in a shed in Brampton, Ont., on Thursday after firefighters extinguished a blaze that engulfed the structure, police report.
Peel Regional Police got calls about a shed on fire on Aloma Crescent, near Avondale Boulevard and Bramalea Road, around 3:45 p. m. Brampton Fire and Emergency Services along with Peel Paramedic Services also responded to the scene.
The fire crews quickly put out the flames and discovered the body while searching through the shed, according to Brampton Fire. The fire was limited to that one shed.
Const. Tyler Bell-Morena, a spokesperson for the police, mentioned to reporters later on Thursday that there’s nothing “overtly” suggesting foul play. He indicated that they believe the victim was male.
“We treat any unexplained death the same, as though it was suspicious, in hopes that the evidence uncovers the death was not,” Bell-Morena said.
Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal will be present at the site to investigate the cause and origin of the fire, he added. Ontario’s coroner will also be attending, he noted.
Residents nearby should expect to see police presence for some time as investigators continue their work.
