Power is gradually being restored in Simcoe County, Ontario, after severe weather left many residents without electricity on Canada Day.

The harsh weather impacted the region, taking down numerous trees and power lines, which crews are now working hard to clear.

“We’re responding as safely and quickly as possible to outages caused by thunderstorms across the province,” said power company Hydro One through a statement on its website.

“After a storm, Hydro One prioritizes restoration in a way that brings power back to the greatest number of customers in the shortest period of time,” the company mentioned.

In a social media update, the company is also reminding residents to keep at least 10 metres away from any downed power lines nearby.

As of Thursday morning, areas like Georgina and Innisfil are still being evaluated for damage, according to Inn Power’s outage map.

“Our crews continue to make steady progress restoring power across our service area following today’s storm,” the corporation stated in several outage updates on social media on Wednesday.

Elexicon Energy also took to social media to apologize for inconveniences caused by outages on Wednesday evening.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this evening’s outages following a short but severe storm,” they posted on X.

“Crews have been dispatched and are actively responding,” they added, stating “we will work 24/7 until power is restored.”
