TORONTO – Ontario’s police oversight agency is looking into an incident where a 21-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries during an arrest by Toronto police last week.
The Special Investigations Unit reports that officers attempted to stop the man after he ran a stop sign on Queens Quay near Little Norway Park on the evening of May 31.
They mention there was some interaction between the officers and the cyclist before he was arrested and issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act. He has since been released.
The SIU states that the cyclist’s lawyer informed them after he went to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious but non-life-threatening injury.
The SIU is requesting body-worn camera footage from the event.
They are also asking anyone with information, including videos or photos, to reach out to them.
