Norman “Norm” Jay Cook, 80, of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Perrault Falls, Ontario, formerly from Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on March 18, 2026.
A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. For any questions or condolences, please visit www. mitchellfh. com or call 641-844-1234. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is assisting Norman and his family during this time.
Norm was born on November 21, 1945, in Eldora, Iowa, to Otis and Frances (Norman) Cook. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and spent 21 years working for the Chicago & North Western Railroad. On February 21, 1969, he married Susan Brennick and began a partnership that lasted for 57 years.
They moved to Northwest Ontario together where they built and managed Rocky Shore Lodge on Perrault Lake. Their vision turned into a thriving fishing resort. In retirement, they enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and summers in Ontario.
Norm had a talent for building things; he could fix or create just about anything and was always ready to lend a hand to others. He had a passion for classic cars-his restored 1938 Ford Coupe was one of his favorites-and was well-known for being an early riser.
He is survived by his wife Sue; sons Chad (Brenda), Jeff (Shauna), and Josh (Brooke); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother Gary (Sandi). He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jerri Bush Winger, nephew Ross Bush, and grandson Matthew Cook.
