Around 150 healthcare supporters will be holding signs and conducting a news conference at the Kitchener GO train station on Thursday morning before making their way to a large rally at Queen’s Park.

Jim Stewart, who chairs the Waterloo Region Health Coalition, shared with 570 News Radio that this is more than just a simple way to transport so many people to Toronto.

The theme for Thursday’s rally is “Stop Ford’s Privatization Train Wreck!” and attendees will be arriving by train from across Ontario.

Stewart mentioned that locals will display their signs on the GO platform and will have a short news conference prior to boarding the train headed for Toronto at 8:36 a. m.

A separate group plans to catch the GO train in Guelph at 8:55 a. m.

Stewart noted, “It’d be a busy time of the morning, and we’re all going to sort of ‘get on board’ and go and try to stop this train wreck.”

He pointed out the rise of private clinics offering services in gynecology, diagnostic imaging, as well as hip and knee surgeries.

He remarked, “We’ve already seen what’s happening to health care in the USA – I mean, it’s absolutely a gong show. And quite frankly, the Americans can’t stand their own healthcare system, and why would we replicate that here?”

Once all protesters arrive by train, they’ll begin marching from Union Station around 11:30 a. m., culminating in the rally on the south lawn of the Ontario legislature building at 1:45 p. m.

Organizers anticipate anywhere between 5,000 to 10,000 protesters total.
