Poilievre mentions that Canada currently produces enough diesel to satisfy national demand, but transportation issues leave some areas reliant on imports from the U. S.

He suggests eliminating all taxes on diesel sales until at least Canada Day by extending the full fuel excise tax cut until July 1 of next year and removing the GST from fuel purchases.

Additionally, Poilievre supports getting rid of all production taxes for diesel by permanently abolishing the federal industrial carbon tax and the Clean Fuel Standard, which he argues increases production costs and discourages investment in refineries.

Poilievre introduced his policy proposal at a gas station in suburban Ottawa on Sunday.

He believes the Conservative plan would enhance refining capacity, allow refineries to process more Canadian crude oil, and develop the necessary transportation and storage infrastructure to serve every region.
