Jack Pridham and Dylan Edwards each scored a goal and added an assist as the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 3-2 on Tuesday night, securing their spot in the Memorial Cup championship game.

The Kitchener team, champions of the Ontario Hockey League, completed round-robin play with a perfect 3-0 record. They started strong with a 5-0 win over host Kelowna on Friday night and followed that up with a 6-2 victory against Western Hockey League champion Everett on Monday night.

Luca Romano also found the net for Kitchener, while Dylan Edwards contributed two assists. Quinnipiac University-bound Christian Kirsch was solid in goal, making 26 saves.

For Chicoutimi, Emile Ricard and Mavrick Lachance each scored. Lucas Beckman made 15 saves in net.

This loss dropped Chicoutimi to a record of 1-2 in round robin play. The Saguenéens began their tournament with a 5-3 defeat to Everett on Saturday night but bounced back to beat Kelowna 3-2 in overtime on Sunday.

The final game of the round-robin will see Everett take on Kelowna on Wednesday night.

Pridham extended Kitchener’s lead to 3-1 just 21 seconds into the third period, marking his fourth goal of the tournament, which is currently leading all players.

After failing to score during a five-minute power play following Jordan Tourigny’s ejection for stomping on Christian Humphreys’ skate, Lachance brought Chicoutimi within one goal with just under four minutes left in regulation.

Romano opened scoring at 1:38 into the first period, followed by O’Reilly doubling it at 3:57 into the second frame. Ricard responded for Chicoutimi at 8:38 of that same period.

The semi-finals will take place Friday to decide who Kitchener will compete against next. The championship match is set for Sunday at 7 p. m. ET and all games will be broadcasted live on TSN.
