Andrew James Mc Ilroy

With a heavy heart, we share the news of Andrew James Mc Ilroy’s passing due to heart failure on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the age of 70. He left us at Royal Victoria Hospital surrounded by his family. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, May (née Bruce) and Jimmy Mc Ilroy, as well as his sister Rosina (John). He will be fondly remembered by his sisters Dorothy (Dennis), Cathy (Grant), Debbie, and Janice (Bob), along with many relatives in Canada, Scotland, and beyond.

Andrew was a loving husband to Karin Wargel Mc Ilroy and a dedicated father to Duncan and Cameron, whom he co-parented with their mother Beth Clune. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Liam, who held a special bond with his Papa.

For over 30 years, Andrew served Toronto Paramedic Services, impacting countless lives with his dedication, compassion, and skill. The number of people he helped is truly beyond measure. Known for his humor, Andrew often joked that he was “the best ACP Toronto has ever seen”-a comment reflecting both his confidence and playful nature. Afterward, he worked in dispatch for Ornge for 13 years before retiring.

Outside of work, Andrew actively engaged in community service. He generously volunteered with Kempenfest and the Optimist Club of Barrie while also supporting Renascent House, Campfire Circle, and Northwest Barrie United Church.

Andrew had a true passion for the outdoors. He loved hiking, camping, and canoeing while enjoying time spent exploring nature trails with his family and beloved dog Floki.

Most importantly, Andrew will be remembered for his kindness toward friends and the deep love he had for family. His spirit of generosity, humor, and community involvement will continue to resonate with all who knew him.

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday May 14th, 2026 at Northwest Barrie United Church at 1pm followed by light refreshments and fellowship.

If you wish to make a donation in memory of Andrew, contributions to Campfire Circle would be greatly appreciated by the family.
