Charles Elgin Green

Charles Elgin Green passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the age of 85, in Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, surrounded by his loving family.

Elgin is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Janet (nee Matthews). He was a devoted father to Laura (Toby) and Karen (Antoine), and a proud Grampa to Lucas, Devin, and Finnley. He was predeceased by his seven older siblings and will be fondly remembered by extended family members both near and far.

Elgin dedicated his career to education as a respected elementary school principal for the Carleton Board of Education. He was an early supporter of students with special needs and later contributed to the development of the Board’s implementation of Bill 82, which required special education programs and services in Ontario schools.

Elgin found joy when spending time with his family and friends at their cottage on Sharbot Lake. There, he enjoyed various building projects, sailing, painting watercolours, bird watching, and getting lost in a good book.

Elgin faced his long battle with heart disease and short fight with cancer with remarkable strength and grace. His kind heart, gentle spirit, and sense of humour will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The interment will take place in Markdale in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute would be greatly appreciated.
