A 40-year-old man is facing a murder charge after authorities discovered a woman’s body in a St. Catharines home on Friday, according to police reports.

That afternoon, Niagara Regional Police Service stated that officers responded to a residence near Lakeshore Road and Lake Street “for reports of two people without vital signs.”

A woman was found deceased, while a man was taken to the hospital; police indicated that his injuries were “expected to be non-life threatening.”

On Monday, police announced they had arrested the man, Joshua St. Omer from St. Catharines, charging him with second-degree murder. He is currently in custody and has a bail hearing scheduled at the courthouse in St. Catharines on Tuesday.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased woman and declined to comment when CBC Hamilton inquired whether there was any prior relationship between the two individuals.
