Two people from Barrie have been charged after police reported stopping the same vehicle twice today.

According to a news release from South Simcoe police, on April 15, around 6:50 a. m., officers pulled over a vehicle that had an expired 10-day permit that was months overdue. The car was moving from County Road 88 onto Highway 400 southbound and was stopped north of Canal Road in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

During the investigation, officers learned that the male driver only held a G1 licence and was violating G1 driving rules by not having a qualified driver with him and driving on a 400-series highway.

The police also discovered that the vehicle didn’t have insurance, and the driver couldn’t provide a valid permit.

The vehicle was directed off the highway for safety during morning rush hour.

A few hours later, around 9:40 a. m., police saw the same vehicle at 10 Sideroad and County Road 89 in Innisfil. This time, a woman was behind the wheel, while the man involved in the first incident sat in the front passenger seat.

The car remained uninsured and continued displaying the expired permit.

The police took away the licence plates and had the vehicle towed off the road.

This led to charges against both a 36-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Barrie for multiple offences, including:

Drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver G1 licence holder – driving on a prohibited highway Operate motor vehicle without insurance Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle Fail to notify of a change of address (owner) Owner permit operation – no insurance Owner operate motor vehicle – no currently validated permit Permit operation of motor vehicle no insurance.

“South Simcoe police remind all motorists that driving without insurance is a serious offence. Vehicle insurance is mandatory under Ontario law and serves as critical protection not only for the driver but also for passengers, pedestrians, and all other road users. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of complying with driver’s licence, vehicle validation, and insurance requirements.”
