OPP reports that officers carried out a search warrant at a residence early this morning, shortly before 5 a. m.; details remain limited as the investigation continues.
Today, two residents of Essa Township were charged in relation to an ongoing child abduction case being investigated by provincial police.
According to Nottawasaga OPP, officers executed the search warrant at a local home just before 5 a. m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
The police stated that both individuals were taken into custody without any issues.
This operation was conducted by the OPP’s major crime unit with support from the OPP tactics and rescue unit (TRU) as well as the OPP emergency response team (ERT).
Jason Demerchant, 41, from Essa Township, faces charges for abducting someone under 16 years old, luring someone under 16 using telecommunication methods, making threats of death or bodily harm, possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes, and obstructing a peace officer.
Samuel Kelly, aged 20 and also from Essa Township, has been charged with abducting someone under 16 years old.
The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
Both suspects are being held while awaiting a bail hearing, according to police.
The investigation is still active and authorities indicate no further information will be released at this moment.
