EDITOR’S NOTE: Police initially reported that a 25-year-old was hospitalized, but later corrected the information to indicate it was a 40-year-old who sustained serious injuries.

Waterloo regional police are searching for several suspects following an early morning shooting outside a Scotiabank in Waterloo.

According to 570 News Radio, officers received reports of multiple gunshots around 2:30 a. m. on Wednesday, in the area of Fischer Hallman Road and Erb Street West.

It’s claimed that two employees were confronted by several suspects, leading to one being shot in what authorities are describing as a targeted robbery.

Initially, police stated the victim was a 25-year-old man but later clarified that it was actually a 40-year-old man taken to the hospital with serious gunshot wounds.

The police confirmed that the 25-year-old was also involved but did not report any physical injuries. Both victims work for an armoured vehicle company.

Inspector Alison Sproule mentioned at a press conference that authorities are looking for at least four suspects, with one potentially armed.

“Investigators are still combing through video evidence and trying to canvass for further video to determine what the suspects descriptions are,” she said.

Images from the scene taken on Wednesday morning show a Garda World security vehicle parked outside of a nearby Scotiabank, surrounded by police tape.

At this stage of the investigation, law enforcement is reviewing video evidence from the scene but cannot draw conclusions until more footage is gathered.

“Investigators are looking into what transpired between the victim, Garda World employees and the suspects,” Sproule said.
