THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – This Mother’s Day morning in Thunder Bay started off quite cold, with temperatures around the freezing point at 0°C. The weather in Northwestern Ontario continues to be a mix of springtime and lingering winter as cold northwest winds keep things unsettled.

Residents can look forward to a day that begins with scattered flurries, changing over to rain showers by the afternoon, reminding everyone that spring near Lake Superior often arrives slowly.

At Thunder Bay Airport this morning, conditions were mostly cloudy with light west winds blowing at 6 km/h. Humidity was at 82 percent, and the barometric pressure measured 101.7 k Pa, indicating a cool but relatively stable air mass across the area.

Today’s Weather Snapshot

Current Weather Conditions

Thunder Bay starts off under predominantly cloudy skies with temperatures slightly above freezing. Although the official sky condition was marked as “not observed,” local observations show significant cloud cover along with lingering cold air wrapping around the Lake Superior basin.

The UV index is rated at 5, which is considered moderate; therefore, even with cloudy skies, it’s still wise to protect your skin during brighter moments.

Monday Forecast for May 11

On Monday, expect a calmer weather pattern to settle in. A mix of sun and clouds will appear alongside lighter winds and highs reaching close to 10°C. Morning wind chills could make it feel like -5°C early on, so it will remain chilly before things warm up in the afternoon.

By Monday night, clouds will roll in again with temperatures holding steady around 1°C.
