TILLSONBURG – Personal support workers (PSWs) will no longer be present in the acute care units at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Rural Roads Health Services announced yesterday that it plans to enhance nursing resources in both acute care and the intensive care unit, and formal layoff procedures will be initiated for the PSWs under their collective agreement. A recent review indicated that patients need more regular nursing assessments, complex medication management, and prompt clinical interventions, all of which are responsibilities of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. The organization also stated that adding more regulated nursing resources can lead to better patient outcomes, fewer adverse events, and promote safer, higher-quality care. This change won’t impact their patient services or bed availability, nor should it affect how care is delivered. Source link
