Acknowledging that Canada Day is a vital occasion celebrating our nation’s founding and honoring its rich history and diverse culture, council decided to allocate funding from the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) to cover costs for Canada Day events in Port Credit, Malton, and Streetsville Business Improvement Areas (BIAs).

Each BIA applied for financial assistance through the Cultural Festivals and Celebrations Grant Program for their Canada Day festivities. Although they each received part of what they requested, none were granted their full amounts. The council agreed to provide additional funding to each BIA to cover expected event costs not met by the grant program using MAT funds.
