A 45-year-old man is facing second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of his 71-year-old mother.

Justin Morgan from Simcoe was taken into custody on Friday and was set to appear in court on Saturday, according to OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk in a media statement.

The charges are linked to the death of his mother, Barbara Morgan, who was discovered deceased on Sunday, Oct. 5, at her home on Head Street South in Simcoe.

As part of the homicide investigation ongoing in Simcoe, police are worried there could be another victim and are seeking help from the public.

Sanchuk mentioned that authorities are particularly concerned about a second individual, 49-year-old Robert Sykes from Simcoe, who has not been located. He was last seen on Head Street South on Saturday, Oct. 4.

As part of a homicide investigation in Simcoe Norfolk OPP are concerned there may be an additional victim. Robert Sykes, age 49, is currently unaccounted for and was last seen on Head St. Sl, on Saturday, October 4, 2025. SUBMITTED

Sykes is described as a white male standing about five-foot-10 and weighing around 120 pounds. He has long dirty blond hair typically worn in a ponytail, along with a long beard/goatee and might be wearing glasses.

Police were still present at the scene on Head Street South as of Friday.

Property records indicate that the house was bought by Barbara Ann Morgan in 2017.

A neighbor living nearby told The that the missing man resides in the basement of Morgan’s house.

“Rob was best friends with Barb’s son growing up,” said the neighbor. “He always said she was like a mother to him.”

The Spectator agreed to keep the neighbor’s name private due to confidentiality concerns.

Morgan herself was described as “very nice” by the neighbor, who noted that she enjoyed gardening and would sometimes bring over baked goods and jars of preserves.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, officers executed a search warrant at a residence located on Stanley Street in Simcoe.

On Saturday police vehicles were parked in the driveway of this residence. Earlier that week what seemed like forensic personnel were observed entering the home. Police vehicles were also visible along the street and in front of this property.

The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit continues its investigation under guidance from the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch while working together with both the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. The OPP Forensic Identification Services are also providing support for this case.

Anyone with information that could help investigators should reach out to Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. If you prefer to stay anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit ontariocrimestoppers. ca.
