The remains of an Ontario police officer who tragically lost his life in a highway accident east of Toronto this week were transported to Oshawa on Thursday in preparation for his funeral.

Sgt. Brandon Malcolm was on duty when he passed away on Monday following a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Highway 401 in Cobourg.

The procession left the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto Thursday afternoon, making its way east along Highway 401 to Oshawa.

Along the route, police officers, first responders, and members of the community gathered on various overpasses to pay their respects.

Authorities mentioned that plans for the funeral of 33-year-old Malcolm are still being finalized.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique stated Monday evening that Malcolm became part of the OPP in 2020 and was also a member of the precision motorcycle team known as the Golden Helmets.

This report by The Canadian Press was first April 30, 2026.
